JA Our Families® introduces first graders to financial literacy and work and career readiness through exploring the roles and responsibilities of family members and how families work together to meet needs and wants. Students learn about the importance of jobs, money, and decision-making through fun stories, discussions, and hands-on activities, including a new design-and-build STEM session where they create and build tools to solve daily challenges. They begin to see how families are the building blocks of their community.
Following participation in the learning experience, students will be able to:
- Identify how everyone, including them, helps in a family.
- Describe how families make money choices by considering what they spend on needs and wants, and what they choose to save.
- Explain how jobs help provide goods and services for a family.
JA Our Families is recommended for students in first grade. The learning experience is volunteer-led and kit-based, and is available in Classroom-Based and Remote Classroom implementation. It includes five 45-minute sessions, with additional extended learning activities and optional digital assets offered throughout.
