Get yer crewmates ready for this year's Bowl-A-Thon, The
Pirate Bowl! Join us October 16 & 17 for a swashbuckling good
time or ye might be made to walk the plank! Your company team will
have a great time bowling two games together and make a lasting
impact on their community with little or no cost to your
organization.
During the 2009-2010 school year, this event will help
JA raise approximately $425,000 in order to provide hands-on programs
to over 70,000 students in south Texas! For more information about

Nominate A Business
Leader for the Hall of Fame
For the
nineteenth year, the San Antonio Business Hall of Fame will be
honoring outstanding men and women for their contributions to free
enterprise and our community. With our sponsor Humana, Junior
Achievement looks forward to recognizing leaders that inspire and
enrich the business world around them.

nomination to the selection committee by September 1, 2009.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 31, 2010.

Beginning in
January 2009, JA began a retrospective study of former JA program
participants. Here are some of the results:

69%
of the respondents have a bachelor's degree or higher, while
only 27% of the general population has this designation (2007
Census Bureau Projections)

18%
of the respondents currently own their own business. In 2007,
9.6% of he U.S. population owned their business (Global
Entrepreneurship Monitor, 2006-2007)
-
86%
agreed or strongly agreed that JA helped prepare them for the
world of work
-
83%
agreed or strongly agreed that JA connected what they learned
in the classroom with real life
-
94%
agree that JA positively affected their future. When asked
how, here is how one respondent answered:
The mentors exposed me
to the possibility of college. I was also empowered to develop leadership
skills so I could be successful in the workplace. It truly was the
most powerful influence in HS that helped pave my future success as
an adult.
