"Do not
be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an
experience."
-Ralph Waldo
Emerson, American author
(1803-1882)
What should I do
when I graduate from high school? What choices are out
there? How do my skills, interests, and values match with available
careers? Through JA
Careers with a Purpose, students explore the answers to
these questions. Maxims and self-inquiry are used in the new
high school program, JA
Careers with a Purpose, to frame career and life
decision-making based on values identified during the course of this
seven week program.
Currently, many
volunteers are needed as the demand for this program has grown
tremendously. For more information on this program, go here or contact Bernadette Byrd at

As a part of JA of
South Texas' effort to enhance and improve the JA programs, classroom
volunteers and educators are encouraged to provide feedback. The
results to-date of the fall 2008 volunteer survey have been
encouraging with 97% indicating they felt prepared for the experience
and 96% responding their expectations of contact and support from the
JA staff were met. Overall, 99% indicated the experience was
positive (17% good - 82% excellent).

Here's what some of our volunteers had to say:
Knowing the children really got so much from this
program made it all worthwhile.
It made me feel happy to see the students learn new
and exciting things.
The students have a more positive outlook on the
economy around them.
The experience was amazing, the lessons were fun, and
the kids really enjoyed it.
I was very nervous going into Junior Achievement but I
am so happy to have the chance to experience this opportunity.
The students really enjoyed having me and I also
found my major.
Thanks to all our classroom volunteers and professional educators
who partner to make JA happen in our area schools.

Plan Your Gifts For Greater Impact
The vital work of
Junior Achievement is made possible in part through the generous
gifts of thousands of individuals each year. If you would like
to support the programs of Junior Achievement, you may find that time
spent considering the best ways to make your gifts can help you make meaningful
gifts while meeting personal planning goals as well.
- You
will discover ways to make larger gifts than you may have
thought possible.
- You
will learn how to make gifts that actually "give back"
for a time, providing extra income in retirement years or
helping to fund educational expenses and other needs.
- You
can add meaning to your gift by using it to honor a
special friend or loved one.
- You
will see how to save money on income, gift, and estate taxes and
instead put those amounts to use in ways you choose.
- You
will enjoy giving more, knowing that you are investing in the
lives of young people in ways that allow you to give the most
you can at the lowest possible cost.
That's what effective gift planning is
all about. To learn more, go here or contact Joe Burke, President
of JA of South Texas at 210.490.2007 x112.
