JA Student Receives National Scholarship Award

Clayton Lillard

In 1999, Clayton Lillard participated in Junior Achievement in Mrs. Hudson’s fourth grade class at Howsman Elementary school. Vicki Gil, his proud mother, who was also his JA volunteer says, “JA impacted his life by teaching him about building a company and all that it entails.” Clayton put JA in action the following school year by starting Clayton’s Backyard Crew. Clayton and some of his friends set the goal of giving back to the community and started their organization. Clayton’s Backyard Crew repaired and provided bicycles to children whose parents are in prison. JA Worldwide featured Clayton in its annual Celebration of Success video in 2002. To view the video, go here.

Recently, Clayton, who hopes to work in the field of musical production, was one of 10 students to receive a $25,000 national scholarship from US News & World Report. Please join Junior Achievement in congratulating Clayton!

 Champions of the Wild
 Spring Safari Bowl

JA Spring Bowl

Over 1,200 individuals from 30 organizations gathered their survival gear and took part in the adventure of a lifetime (well, that may be overstating it a bit) by participating in the spring “Safari Bowl.” With participants from New Braunfels, San Antonio and Seguin, approximately $90,000 was raised in support.

Our thanks to all the bowlers, donors, team captains, and company coordinators who championed participation in the bowl-a-thon. Over 3,600 students will participate in the JA programs this year due to the outcome of this event. Congratulations to our top three fund raising companies: Clarke American, AT&T, and Argonaut Insurance. Thanks to event newcomers: Accenture; Drenner & Golden, Stuart, Wolff, LLP; Mobius Partners; Rackspace Managed Hosting and to all who participated:
