JA It's My
Business! New Program
Introduction Along with JA
America Works, featured in our last
newsletter, September 1st marked the release of
JA It’s My Business into our local
communities. This middle grades program
emphasizes entrepreneurship while providing a
strong focus on social studies, reading, and
writing skills. Topics of focus include:
understanding entrepreneurship, identifying a
market and the role of market research,
advertising, the importance of creativity and
innovation, developing a business plan, and
self-concept.
Participating students will
be encouraged to use critical thinking to learn
entrepreneurial skills that support positive
attitudes as they explore and enhance their
career aspirations. If you are interested in
learning more about the JA It’s My
Business program or would like to volunteer,
please contact Veronica Avila

The Highest Half in
Texas! Corpus Christi Harbor Half
Marathon & Relay
Join JA for the
second annual Harbor Half Marathon & Relay,
presented by Valero, benefiting JA programs in
the Coastal Bend region. The “Harbor Half” has
many unique features beginning with a footrace
across Corpus Christi’s Harbor Bridge. It is the
highest half in Texas and will be guaranteed to
challenge even the most seasoned
runner.
Some additions this year include
participating in the Valero Corporate Cup
Challenge, by entering as a team, to receive VIP
benefits and compete for the Valero Corporate
Cup. Also, the first ever Kid’s Marathon,
sponsored by H-E-B, is a great way to challenge
kids to participate in a fitness program that is
fun and focused with a purpose – not to mention
beneficial to the community, their peers, and
themselves.
The race will take place on
Sunday, October 22, 2006 and begin at 7 a.m.
(Kid’s race at 7:15 a.m.) at Concrete Street
Amphitheater. Help JA make this year’s “Harbor
Half” bigger and better than the last, and
create a lasting impact in the Coastal
Bend.
