Meeting the Needs of Economically Disadvantaged Students
In 2007, JA Worldwide convened a Blue Ribbon Panel to discuss effective and highly relevant curriculum for economically disadvantaged students, with a particular focus on work-readiness.  In convening the Blue Ribbon Panel, JA Worldwide's focus was to confirm that its curriculum is highly effective and relevant for economically disadvantaged students.  The Panel took its mission one step further by discussing curriculum in general, as well as other skills and experiences these students need to become work-ready.  The result is a holistic approach that offers students a path to work and careers.

The Panel members were enthusiastic about and supportive of the work that JA does and excited to know that JA is looking at ways to reach all students with JA programs.  They stated unequivocally that economically disadvantaged students need the lessons taught in JA curricula.  Moreover, they believe that economically disadvantaged students are as capable as other students of learning the concepts presented in JA programs and of benefiting from them. Next stops for JA Worldwide include revamping training videos and enhancing all aspects of volunteer training to encourage broader participation in at-risk schools.
